Grand Traverse County Recent Arrests
Grand Traverse County posts no daily arrest log and no rolling weekly list. The official starting point is the Grand Traverse inmate inquiry, a current-custody portal the sheriff links to. That gap matters. A roster tells you who the jail held when you searched. A booking feed would tell you who entered over a set window. Someone arrested and released fast may never surface later. Someone still in transport may not appear yet. Write down your search time. The county's channels split the work instead of pooling every fact in one feed. For a same-day question, the Arrests Last 24 Hours guide fits. The Police Blotter page explains the multi-day method. Each channel supports a different kind of answer.
| Channel | Supported window | Best use | Photo caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| County inmate inquiry | Current custody; persistence not published | Confirm county-jail custody now | Live photo behavior is not guaranteed |
| Same-day feed | No separate official 24- or 48-hour feed located | Use roster, phone, then records fallback | No verified feed photo policy |
| Multi-day blotter | No official rolling or weekly log located | Combine court, records, and dated news | News images are not jail policy |
| MI-VINE | Reported custody events | Custody status and release, transfer, or escape alerts | Not a booking-photo archive |
| District and circuit courts | Case life after filing | Arraignment, bond, charges, and disposition | Court records are not a mugshot feed |
Arrested Overnight in Grand Traverse
An overnight arrest crosses several clocks. Offense, arrest, transport, intake, data entry, and web posting can all land on different dates. Grand Traverse County follows no fixed refresh schedule. A blank early-morning search proves nothing. Check the live roster, try spellings, and note the time. If it is urgent, call Corrections at 231-922-4530. MI-VINE offers another custody check once the event reaches its system.
Release changes the picture. A name can leave current custody while the booking card, photo, court case, and release record all stay put. Each piece has its own keeper. The arresting agency holds the incident report. The jail holds the intake record. The court holds the outcome. These are related records, not copies of one another.
Search the Grand Traverse Jail Roster
The Sheriff's Office Corrections Division runs the Grand Traverse County Correctional Facility. The direct New World inmate inquiry is the public route in. Older county "Inmates" links may hit dead pages. Search only the fields the live form gives you. Results shift with time. A photo appearing or vanishing creates no county-wide promise.
| Search field | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Name | Starts an identity match; compare spelling and other identifiers. |
| Subject or inmate number | Separates people with similar names. |
| Booking number | Points to a specific admission when displayed or known. |
| Booking date or custody option | Narrows results only when the current form offers it. |
Start with the direct portal. Write down the lookup time. Match the result against a date of birth, booking number, or court number when you have one. If the portal fails, call Corrections, then try MI-VINE. For a released person or a missing field, send a specific Sheriff FOIA request. Skip unofficial jail copies. An online result only shows that the system reported custody at that moment. When jail status is not enough, the 86th District Court access page gives the official court-side route.
Note: the image shows a government access page, not a list of people or booking photographs.
Where Grand Traverse Arrests Appear
Put official sources first. The roster covers county custody. Sheriff FOIA reaches retained booking material. MI-VINE reports eligible custody events. District and circuit court portals track a case after filing. Local journalism adds dated stories, but it picks and chooses, so it can never stand in for a full arrest log. The sheriff lists no inmate app; CodeRED, Notify Me, Smart911, and sheriff social posts handle public safety, not bookings.
| Source | Official | What it answers | Photo status |
|---|---|---|---|
| County inmate inquiry | Yes | Current county custody | Check the live result; not guaranteed |
| Sheriff FOIA | Yes | Requestable booking card, photo, release or transfer data | May be requested, subject to exemptions |
| MI-VINE | Government-supported | Custody and alert events | Not a photo repository |
| 86th District and 13th Circuit | Yes | Filed case and later outcome | Not a booking gallery |
| Regional news | No | Selected arrest and court stories | Story image does not prove jail publication |
| Private archive copies | No | Potentially old, partial copies | May be stale; verify everything officially |
One private Grand Traverse archive covers older years. Other big booking aggregators have no verified local section. Treat any private copy as secondary and possibly stale. Never use one to judge current custody or final charges.
Recent Arrests Across County Cities
Who makes the arrest and where it lands are two different things. Traverse City Police can book someone there. Kingsley gets police service from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department. Michigan State Police also watch over it. Fife Lake's local pages name a contracted sheriff deputy as its community police officer. If the person may be jailed, search the county custody system first. Then request the incident report from the arresting agency.
- Traverse City Recent Arrests explains the municipal police records route and county booking path.
- Kingsley Recent Arrests focuses on sheriff-provided village police service.
- Fife Lake Recent Arrests covers the contracted deputy and shared county sources.
Read a Grand Traverse Arrest Record
A booking record sits between the incident report and the court case. The jail's internal inmate jacket can run broader than a public roster result. Keep three dates apart: offense, arrest, and booking. A warrant booking needs no new alleged offense. A late transport delays things. It can push admission to the next calendar day.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full name and identifier | The identity used by the facility; compare another identifier when possible. |
| Booking number and time | The particular jail admission and intake time, not necessarily arrest time. |
| Arresting agency | The office that brought the person to custody. |
| Charges as booked | Intake charges that may later be amended or dismissed. |
| Bond and court date | Release terms and the next scheduled proceeding as then recorded. |
| Booking photo | An intake image when maintained and releasable. |
| Release or transfer | A later custody event, distinct from the court outcome. |
Grand Traverse Mugshots and Arrest Photos
Grand Traverse County posts no firm rule on booking photographs. The county does not promise an image in every roster result. Nor does it say how long a photo stays visible. Always check the live official result first. If no image appears, request the booking photo from the Sheriff under Michigan FOIA. Include the person's name, the date range, the arresting agency, and the booking number when you have it. Public access on request and automatic display on a website are two different things.
Michigan's Attorney General publishes a FOIA Handbook that treats county-sheriff booking photographs as public records in the ordinary analysis. Exemptions still exist, such as records that would interfere with an active law-enforcement investigation. Michigan law contains no statute aimed specifically at commercial mugshot pay-to-remove practices, so no statute number should be invented to fill that gap.
For people under state correctional supervision, a separate tool exists. The Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS search covers that population rather than county jail bookings.
OTIS may show a state offender photograph. It is not the Grand Traverse County booking roster, and it leaves out anyone who never entered MDOC supervision.
Request Grand Traverse Arrest Records
The Sheriff's FOIA request page is the formal route for records. It covers a booking card, a photograph, or a retained jail record. Central Records answers at 231-995-5005. Mail a request to the Sheriff's Office at 851 Woodmere Avenue, Traverse City, MI 49686. A fax option exists too. Use 231-995-5010. The county warns a fee may apply. It also allows at least five business days for a response. If an estimate tops $50, the requester gets notice before production. No flat photo fee is promised, though.
- Name the person and give a useful arrest or booking date range.
- Add date of birth, arresting agency, booking number, or case number when known.
- List the exact items wanted, such as the booking card, intake photo, bond, and release or transfer fields.
- Ask the agency to identify any redaction or withheld record and its legal basis.
The official Grand Traverse County records request page appears below, so you can confirm the government channel before entering any identifying details.
The county's own form and current instructions always govern, since fees and submission methods can change without notice.
Michigan Arrest Records and Removal
Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 and following, opens access to non-exempt public records. It allows inspection and copies. Fees and exemptions are lawful under it. Juvenile, sealed, set-aside, victim-sensitive, medical, security, and active-investigation material can be absent or restricted. Grand Traverse County also cautions that Public Act 193 of 2020 keeps some cases out of its criminal search. A blank result proves little on its own.
Michigan General Schedule 11 keeps inmate jackets, including booking cards and mug shots, for release plus ten years. Then destruction is authorized. Booking and control-center logs last to calendar year-end plus seven years. Daily count summaries run to year-end plus one. A legal hold can stretch those periods. So can an approved local schedule. Old Grand Traverse jail records may someday rest with the Archives of Michigan. That archive is not a current-custody source. For corrections or removal, start with the agency or court that holds the record. Michigan Clean Slate and MCL 764.26a can affect qualifying conviction or dismissed-arrest records, but neither wipes every private copy. After a source page changes, refresh the search result. Google's free outdated-content tool updates that listing. Never pay a removal operator on faith that payment changes the official arrest record.
Grand Traverse Warrants and Arrest Safety
Grand Traverse County runs no stable public warrant-search portal. No permanent most-wanted page exists either. Warrant confirmation here runs through the court and the sheriff. The 86th District Court answers at 231-922-4580. The sheriff's non-emergency line is 231-922-4550. Central Records is 231-995-5005 and the Detective Bureau is 231-995-5002. A court docket may hint at a warrant, but it is not guaranteed real-time confirmation. If a warrant might name you, speak with the court, the sheriff, or counsel. To report another person, call 911 for emergencies or use the official non-emergency and tip channels. Never approach, follow, confront, or publish a live location. Sheriff social posts carry public-safety notices, not a complete warrant database.
After a Grand Traverse Arrest
The 86th District Court handles arraignments, misdemeanors, bond activity, and related district matters. In-custody arraignments begin at 1:30 p.m. on weekdays, according to the county FAQ. The current court schedule still controls. A bound-over felony moves the case to the 13th Circuit Court criminal database. That database covers felonies only. Misdemeanors stay out, so both court levels may need checking. The Grand Traverse Court Cases hub links the separate district and circuit routes.
This Grand Traverse court hub separates current custody from the case record, which can continue long after release.
Why Grand Traverse Arrests Vanish
Names drop off the Grand Traverse County roster for many reasons. A release is the most common one. Transfers, spelling quirks, indexing delays, and portal outages all play a part too. A protected record can hide a name. Custody tracked in a totally separate system can hide one too.
Older links on the county site have even returned missing-page notices. The external booking portal kept working, though. So save that direct URL. The jail phone line works as a separate check. It can tell you whether someone is still in custody. One broken link never means the custody system itself is gone.
There is also a planning question hanging over the jail. County officials are studying what the justice facility will need down the road. The county jail planning page lays out space and structural concerns. It gives the present building only limited useful life. That is not a move announcement. For now, bookings and records stay at the Grand Traverse County Correctional Facility. Checking the roster address and records custodian from time to time just makes sense.
Note: The jail planning effort is context for future link checks, not proof that the jail has moved.
State, Federal, and Immigration Custody
Match the custodian to the person's status. A state prisoner, parolee, or probationer belongs in MDOC OTIS, which may even show an offender photo. An ordinary Grand Traverse County jail booking will not appear there, though. Federal inmates from 1982 forward sit in the Bureau of Prisons locator, which shares no public booking photos. A
answer covers only that system, so treat it as one piece of the puzzle.
Immigration custody works differently. The ICE detainee locator wants an exact A-number plus country of birth, or a full name with birth country and birth date. None of that touches the Grand Traverse jail roster. The U.S. Marshals Service runs no public county-style roster or mugshot gallery either. Whatever system you search, note the result date. One custodian's silence says nothing about another custodian's records.
